Community Unites for Flood Victims in Sri Lanka

On December 5, 2025, the United Sri Lankans Association (USLA) in Wellington, New Zealand, spearheaded a powerful gathering of community organizations at the Dhammagavesi Meditation Centre in Wellington for a special Buddhist religious observance.

The deeply meaningful ceremony was organized to offer blessings and prayers for all those impacted by the recent devastating floods in Sri Lanka. Specifically, the attendees sought to invoke blessings for the lives lost, wish a speedy recovery for those affected, and extend blessings for the prosperity of Sri Lanka and its resilient people.

The observance was led by the Most Venerable Welimada Jinalankara Thero, Chief Incumbent of the monastery. The Most Venerable Thero expressed strong hopes that Sri Lanka would soon surmount these challenges, citing the nation's new leadership and the inherent strength of its people. Furthermore, he made a heartfelt request for devotees to sustain their support for the ongoing rebuilding and recovery efforts.

The event saw strong participation from the community, including Mr. Ranjith Nanayakkara, President of USLA, and various other community leaders and well-wishers. The Government of Sri Lanka was officially represented by High Commissioner Prasanna Gamage.
